“This year, we are proud to induct the United Way of Virginia’s Blue Ridge, an organization that has been a vital force for good in our community for the past century. Originally founded in 1924 as the (Community Fund which would later become known as United Way of Roanoke Valley and as of 2025, United Way of Virginia’s Blue Ridge) by business and community leaders W.C. Stephenson and W.W. Boxley, the organization has continually evolved to meet the region’s needs. Their recent rebranding reflects their growing impact and strengthened partnerships, allowing them to serve even more individuals and families. Over the years, they have helped 3.49 million people, raised and reinvested $233 million, and engaged over 1.4 million donors to improve lives across the region.”

“Their impact is truly remarkable—56,000 children have received quality early education in the past decade, $20 million in government grants have been secured since 2010, and 5,200 families have been assisted on their path to self-sufficiency since 2018. With the help of 85,000 volunteers, United Way has continually strengthened the Roanoke Valley and beyond, including leading efforts to secure $40 million in grants for essential programs. Their century of service has left a lasting mark on our community…”
